Abstract

The article deals with the creative heritage of individual representatives of the Turkestan intelligentsia, whose activities were of great importance for the development of provincial oriental studies and archaeology in pre-revolutionary Russia. Having at their disposal a small material base and limited opportunities, from year to year the members of the circle persistently and consistently developed fruitful scientific activity, scrupulously studying the diverse historical, cultural and archaeological heritage of the Turkestan region. This work was actively joined by local historians, who came by fate from different parts of the empire. Some of them, like A.A. Divayev and V.А. Kallaur, became outstanding researchers. Based on the materials of published works and archival documents of these scientists, the authors analyze their scientific activities in the Turkestan circle of amateur archaeologists. The authors especially consider the activities of V.V. Bartold, who contributed to the development of science in the Turkestan region. His creative collaboration with A.A. Divayev in the study of the past of the pre-revolutionary Russian Turkestan, laid the foundation for the further development of the archaeological science of Kazakhstan.
