Abstract

The article publishes the only of Khazar medieval Taurica find of hoard of astragalus. It was discovered in 2022 on the territory of the early medieval settlement Belinskoye in the northern part of the Kerch Peninsula. The hoard was recorded within the residential area and, according to the accompanying archaeological material, dates from the middle of the second half of the IX century. 44 specimens of astragalus were found in a small pit under the floor of the structure, 8 of which have various traces of processing and graffiti signs. Currently, researchers recognize the multifunctional purpose of astragalus and their use in everyday life, in gaming and cult practice. Based on the nature of the find and its composition, the authors are inclined to the version of the ritual function of the discovered hoard. This expands our ideas about the religious syncretism of Crimean Khazaria and coexistence on the same settlement in the second half of the IX century both the pagan and Christianized Inhabitants.
