Results of Archaeological Works on the Right-Bank Tsimlyansk Fortress in 2020-2022: finds and materials

Abstract

The article is dedicated to the analysis of archaeological finds discovered during research at the Right-bank Tsimlyansk fortress in 2020–2022. For three years, an area of 105.6 m2 was investigated on the territory near eastern wall, which was destroyed. Fragments of ceramics, mainly cookingware, belonging to the Saltovo-Mayaki archaeological culture, became the mass material on the area under study. Fragments of tableware and imported ceramics (amphorae, oinohoes) were found much less frequently. Building ware was also found and represented by several types of finds: burned bricks of square and similar shapes, tiles, calypters and ceramides. Building ware includes pieces of plaster and fragments of building blocks with furrows, one of which has traces of plaster with paint. There were few individual finds: a spindle whorl made of the vessel wall and a metal product of unclear purpose. Solitary finds on the monument belong to the Late Bronze Age.
