Abstract

The article deals with the results of a critical analysis of data on the chronology, periodization and genesis of the Early Neolithic Elshanka culture aimed at assessing the state of this issue. According to available data, the spread of ceramics with pointed bottom in Eastern Europe occurs in a short time period no later than the middle of 8 thousand years BP. The version about the Central Asian origin of the Elshanka pottery with pointed bottom has no sufficient confirmation. It is suggested that the Elshanka culture emerged under the influence of an impulse from the territory of Kazakhstan and chronologically earlier Neolithic cultures of the north of China and Transbaikalia. The issues on the formation and cultural status of late pottery with flat and pointed bottoms of the Lugovskoy type, as well as the participation of the population of neighboring regions in this process require an additional study.
