The article presents a generalization of the experience of systematization of archaeological materials obtained during study of the Tankeevka burial ground of the IX–X centuries from 1961 to 1988 and kept in the Museum of Archaeology of the Republic of Tatarstan. At present, most of the collection has the status of pre-fund storage, which is an additional form of museum registration of the MART. The work on systematization of the collection is considered as a necessary stage for transferring it from pre-fund to permanent storage. The use of systematization methods allows to ensure the preservation, study and operational management of collections, creates an opportunity for their further study, restoration and use in the museum's exhibition activities. It is also assumed that the systematization of the collection is connected with the identification of its information potential.
