Review is dedicated to the volume 5 of the series “Archaeology of the Volga-Urals”. The volume contains information about the history and archaeology of the Middle Ages (VIII – early XIII centuries) – Volga Bolgaria, Finno-Ugrian world, nomads of the Eastern Europe. Geographically, the region under study covers a huge area – the European North-East, the southern Middle Volga region, including Trans-Kama, Cis-Volga and Cis-Kama. From the south, the peoples of the Southern Ural interact with the population of this region. The Southern Ural includes landscape-local microdistricts: the Bugulma-Belebey upland, the Taininskaya and Mesyagutvo forest steppe, the Dyoma-Chermasan steppe corridor and the forest steppe and steppe Trans-Ural. All these territories are included in the territory of Bashkortostan, the Orenburg and Chelyabinsk regions, as well as the districts of the Donetsk region. In the historical and cultural chronology, the monograph deals with aspects of the archaeology of the Khazar Khaganate and its periphery, Volga Bolgaria and the peoples of the Volga region that were part of it and neighboring with it, as well as sites of the Volga region and the Urals of Bashkortostan.
