Hoard of Oriental Coins Found near Tyoploe Village in Tula Region

The paper introduces a hoard of silver oriental coins of the early second half of the 810s discovered in the environs of Tyoploe village in Tula region. All its specimens are listed, and the most remarkable ones in terms of the type are noted. The dynastic, geographic and chronological distributions of the coins is analyzed. The characteristic features of the hoard common to a number of the finds from the Oka river basin with a similar formation pattern are revealed, and its peculiarities are discussed. It is one of the earliest hoards in Oka river basin that, together with other chronologically similar finds, marks the beginning of the flow of Muslim monetary silver to the region no later than in the mid-810s. It is concluded that the hoard is a valuable source for studying the circulation of Oriental coins in Eastern Europe and the Oka river basin, and trade links with the Muslim East through the mediation of Khazar Khaganate.
