Abstract

This paper deals with the history of archaeological investigations at the Odoyevskoye hillfort from the end of the XIX century to the present day. The site was first discovered by F.D. Nefyodov in 1883 and subsequently surveyed by N.M. Bekarevich in 1903. Excavations were carried out by B.S. Zhukov and O.N. Bader in 1925–1926. The hillfort was further examined by K.I. Komarov in 1981 and by A.V. Novikov in 1999. A new phase of research commenced in 2022, when a joint field team of the Kostroma Archaeological Expedition and the Institute of Archaeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, under the direction of A.V. Novikov and O.V. Novikova, began systematic investigations at the site. This work is conducted with the support of the Russian Geographical Society. The results of these studies suggest three major stages of settlement at “Odoyevskoye Cape”, beginning with the Ananyino era and ending with the Great Migration Period.
