Abstract

Materials from the Bazyakovo X campsite, a multi-layered primeval settlement site in the Lower Kama region are analyzed in the paper. Archaeological study of the artifact assemblage reveals several distinct phases of site occupation. The earliest phase dates to the Late Neolithic period, as evidenced by a diagnostic ceramics assemblage attributable to the Kama culture. The lithic assemblage from this phase is equally distinctive. The second occupational phase, corresponding to the Late Bronze Age, is associated with bearers of the Srubnaya, Lugovoye, and Maklashevka ceramic traditions. In the final phase, during the Early Iron Age, the campsite was likely reoccupied by populations belonging to the Ananyino cultural and historical area. Fragments of post-Maklashevka culture pottery also date to the Early Iron Age. Thus, the functioning of the campsite, in all probability, with some interruptions, took place in the period from the V to the I millennium BC.
