Abstract

The article presents a summary of the results of archeological studies recently conducted in the territory of Orel. The surveys were carried out in the historical center of city in the fortress and beyond its territory on the both riverbanks of the Oka and Orlik. As a result of the completed work, urban soil layers of the 18th-20th centuries and earlier periods were discovered under vast layers of contemporary urban structures confi rmed by the archive cartographic materials of the same period. Materials of the Neolithic dated the 1st Millennium AD, Ancient Russia, 14th – 17th centuries, and 18th - early 20th century have been revealed.
