Abstract

The results of field studies conducted in 2012 on the southern outskirts of the Bolgar fortified settlement (CLXXVIII excavation) are presented in the paper. The burials of the Golden Horde time made by the Muslim rite were found here. The coin "two-headed eagle", found in one of the burials, shows that the cemetery functioned at least since the 40s of the XIV century, as the puls with a two-headed eagle have a very short period of circulation and usually do not go beyond the 1340s. This section was originally used as a necropolis because the traces of economic activity have not been revealed, and individual findings came from the layer of later plowing. The compact set of small cattle bones was traced between burials. It can be assumed that this site is associated with a once-only wake.
