Abstract

The paper features the materials from the excavations of Kipchakovo I barrow and subsoil burial ground carried out by F.M. Tagirov in 1990-1991, 1994 and 2001. During four fi eld seasons, 4 barrows (No. 15, 41, 51, 52) and two excavations adjacent to burial No. 41 (Excavation I with an area of 36 square meters) and barrow No. 15 (excavation II with an area of 618 square meters) were investigated. During this period, a total of 64 graves with the remains of 67 persons were studied, including 21 male burials, 15 female burials, 8 children’s and adolescent’s burials were discovered, and in 23 cases it was not possible to determine the gender due to the lack of clothing inventory, and sometimes the skeletons themselves. All burials were made according to the rite of inhumation in ordinary earth graves of rectangular, oval or combined shape. The burial inventory of the Kipchakovo I barrow subsoil burial ground belongs to the range of the Piany Bor antiquities. The vast majority of items have numerous counterparts in the burial grounds of the Piany Bor culture which developed in the Kama region at the end of the 1st millennium BC. The most probable dating of the burials in the part of Kipchakovo I burial ground investigated by F.M. Tagirov is the 2nd century BC - the 1st century AD.
