Abstract

A collection of metal head adornments is introduced by the author into scientific circulation, represented by kalatch-shaped temple pendants discovered during excavations of the Vak-Kur burial ground in the Lower Tobol Basin (Western Siberia). The necropolis dates back to the 10th–11th centuries and is a reference monument of Yudino archaeological culture of the developed Middle Ages. The typology of kalatch-shaped temple pendants (32 items) was established. According to the manufacturing technology, they were divided into two types: forged and cast. The versions identified within the types characterize the design features of the shield. A series of analogies to the pendants of different types and variants were identified, which showed that in terms of materials of manufacture, technological methods, morphological and decorative features, the items from Vak-Kur are in most cases products of local West Siberian craftsmen. And only a few silver pendants can be viewed as items imported from the Cis-Urals.
