The Ik burial ground has traditionally been attributed to the Piany Bor culture. Re-examination of the collection has allowed refinement of several attributions. Some burials are unambiguously identified as "Piany Bor" type based on finds of specific "ethnographic" artifacts — temple pendants and semi-tubular beads (polupronizki). Several burials lack culturally diagnostic artifacts but are dated to the "Piany Bor period" based on the chronology of items (buckles with movable tongues, syulgama, scabbards). The burial ground yields a distinctive shape of iron bracelets not found elsewhere; their secure identification was enabled by finds at the Kipchakovo burial ground and hillfort. Two burials from the 1988 excavations (No. 68 and 72) contain assemblages markedly distinct from the Piany Bor material culture. These burials are attributed to the Chiyalek culture. Contemporary finds occur at the Ik V unfortified settlement located beneath the burial ground, the Ik I settlement, and the Turaevo II burial ground situated approximately 500 m from the Ik burial ground. The co-occurrence of burials belonging to precisely these cultures within a single locality is not unique, raising questions either about a shared logic in the selection of ritual space among these population groups, or about similar climatic and topographic conditions during these periods.
